Bananas
This is what happens when you're a child of the Depression and a banana bread maker. You toss all of your overripe bananas in the freezer for that day you're going to make banana bread.
And then you don't make banana bread.
A few months ago I looked in the mama's freezer and saw some bananas. Then I got curious about how many of them there were. She has a chest freezer also, which allows for storage of vast quantities of old black bananas. The archivist in me wanted to put like with like, so I went on a banana hunt. I found 28 overripe frozen bananas. Or was it 38? It was a LOT of bananas.
I did what any child of a child of the Depression would do: I brought them home so I can make a project out of them. Banana bread for all!
Last week my brother-in-law found ten additional bananas that I had overlooked.

The Move
Can we talk about something other than Mom? Probably not. That's what we're doing right now.
For the past few weeks I've been prepping (mostly in my mind and hers) for the move. Photographing objects so the mama can see her selects together, recording dimensions so I can place them on the virtual map, negotiating with siblings who all want the same objects. When writing this down I realize that these are all the kinds of things I do at the factory all day, so that's why I should be doing them for my mom.
She's been a trouper, but doesn't realize how much work this is any more. I'm at the point where I need to act on the decisions we've made, and she doesn't understand that I can't do all the things that she wants me to do (i.e. "Wouldn't you like to open those curtains?" or "Let's go through the things in the office") I just have to do stuff. So this weekend, which was also very warm, I just about lost my mind. It'll be fine. I just need everyone to be out of the house so I can do my thing. That will happen next week.
This week we're going on family vacation. I split after four days and head home to oversee the move. When the mama comes home from vacation, she'll move directly into her new place. It'll be exciting. After that we get her settled in and begin disassembling the old house, so to speak.
1) Who wants what
2) Auction things that nobody wants
3) Estate sale (or not)
4) Sale
and then it's time for the holidays.
Christmas at our house.

Deliverance
After a week of having the theme song to The Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt stuck in my head I was ready for something else. I went to bed thinking "I wish I could stop the plague of the Kimmie Schmidt song!"
So deliverance took the form of the song Coca Cola Douche by the Fugs this morning. At one point in my life I thought this was a hilarious and subversive song and now I just think it's dumb and I'm stuck with it.
Not like I can share this with my 87-year-old mom, who I've been staying with for the last week!
Good times, People, good times.
