World Cup

Mrguy has disappeared. I think he went back to bed.

So it's just me and my little memento of the Norway / England game, where the guy who sat next to me at the club repeatedly broke champagne glasses and then claimed to not know why they broke. Then he reached over me and put this on the...

Oh my god is that Miss Piggy singing in the World Cup halftime? Gross!

And we have to see the president?

OK, anyway this is my little friend that the drunk Norwegian put on the window ledge next to me. Then later he tried to put the rest of the glass on my plate while I was eating. It was another trippy day at the club.

The Olympics

This is one of the many reasons that I love mrguy: "They should outlaw horse racing and gymnastics, for the same reason -- it's exploiting living creatures while requiring them to maintain unreasonable physical standards, for our enjoyment. I hate the Olympics. It's heinous."

This has been mrguy on the Olympics

Note: the original conversation started with my commenting on the silly headline from the New York Times: "It’s Norway’s Games Again. What’s Its Secret?" To this I just wanted to say "Snow. The reason is snow."

Anyhoo, enjoy your winter sports, people. I can't wait until the Olympics are over.

Limpics 2016

It's time for the Limpics again, and crotchety mrsguy is not feeling it.

I can only think of pestilence, pollution, and how the billions of dollars they spent on the spectacle would have been better spent on the people of Rio. I predict that by the time the Limpics are over, that place is going to be like a Superfund site.

When I was little, the Limpics were on a high, from a PR perspective. It seemed the purest and best expression of athletics. I could not *wait* to see my favorite sports. I was super into track and field, which is hard to believe now, since I am such an advocate and practitioner of sloth.

Anyway, after reading up on the 1936 Limpics earlier this year I did a deep dive into the life of Avery Brundage. For a good old slimy time, read his Wikipedia entry. Given his ties to our fair city, I am extra horrified by his thoughts and deeds.

I will be loving the empty aisles of the grocery store this next few weeks.

A Day In The City

We did something unusual yesterday and invited friends out to see a reading of a play. The playwright is a high school friend, and the play was loosely based on her ancestor, a madam.

Had to check out my cactus collection on the way out of the house. The easter cactus, which was once a collection of sticks, has been blooming steadily for the last month.

On the way to the city we followed a grease trap service truck (from the old place) all the way over. On the way back, many hours later, we followed it again. Weird.

At the theater:

Over lunch we discussed the questionnaire and the pros and cons of the narration, part of which was in another language that only one of us at the table understood.

At home we watered plants and cars. I'm trying to make a planter box hedge of these geraniums that were a cutting from that nice guy's geranium, 20+ years ago. It's my favorite.

During dinner we had a cat eruption, with the oldest pooping and throwing up everywhere while I was preparing dinner. His decline is echoing my mom's, so I melted down. Then I washed his butt in the sink. Such a happy boy!

By evening's end we'd cheered on the local sports team and watched no fewer than three episodes of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, and all was well.

Kentucky Derby and Big Sis Guy's Birthday, Observed

Today we watched the Kentucky Derby.

Big sis guy was rooting for Jackson Bend.
I was rooting for Paddy O'Prado.

Now we're playing with blogspot and I'm advocating for her to make her own travel blog, because that's what people are doing nowadays.

More later.
